Absolute Best Of Long Beach

Never in my life would I have thought this would happen.

I feel so honored to just be nominated! Wow ..., simply wonderful. I'm ecstatic. I am so deeply humbled to be nominated for the one and only category that resonates with my soul so very much. “LGBTQ Activist/Volunteer”

To be of service, to me, is what matters the most.

I share this category with some of the most amazing people I've met in Long Beach thus far. I love them all! How beautiful ... it makes me want to cry. Sad face.

This is a great opportunity for anyone to share an amazing message. A message of hope, a message of love, and if the community accepts it ... a message of change.

I love you Long Beach, and I am so grateful for you and this wonderful nomination. Please vote! Congratulations to all of the nominees.

La Bohème.

Just got home from watching my first opera, "La Bohème." I really didn't know what to expect, but from the history that I was able to capture prior ... it seems as though "Rent" the musical was based on the very story of "La Bohème."

The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion was beautiful. My only gripe was the parking situation. I'm not sure if there were multiple shows going on at the same time between the competing venues: Dorothy Chandler, Ahmanson, Walt Disney Concert Hall, etc. ... but Lord Jesus, that was rough.

I am familiar with "Rent" the musical, which I adore mind you, so I tried to gauge the similarities. It was pretty spot on, and very intriguing. Since I couldn't understand the language very well, I was bouncing between the translation markers and the actual stage. That was kind of difficult.

However, I had a fond time. I loved seeing everyone dressed up in their Sunday's best ... "ready for the opera," attire. The main lobby had slight chatter, but mostly everyone remained quiet. That I am not used to at all. Overall, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Well, I can't wait for the next one ... La Bohème!

Stop & Smell The Roses

Yesterday I got my haircut on 2nd Street in the shore; Belmont Shore that is. This particular area of Long Beach is very well known for its beach adjacent living, and if you're lucky enough you could live right on the sand ... or at least close enough to it.

On 2nd Street., in particular, there are bountiful storefronts that are locally owned. Some are also part of big franchises. I walked by this one flower shop and couldn't help but take a picture of all the fresh flowers in the front.

I love flowers. I remember the days when I used to just pass them by, ... without a care in the world. Now, any chance I get ... I like to purchase a pre-made bouquet or make one my own. It just fills up the room with life.

Love life, I say ... and stop and smell the roses.

How cliché ... but true, nonetheless.

Gay For Good

What a wonderful gift it was to participate in a fundraiser for one of my favorite non-profits in the Long Beach area. My dearest friend, Anne Friedman, National Director of the wonderful Gay For Good organization hosted an amazing fundraiser this past Sunday. Thank you so much for inviting me Love!

Empress Sabreena (Butch Keeling), and I represented the Long Beach Imperial Court during this beautiful event and it was truly fun and exciting. We played bingo, I emceed a little bit, and I got to meet a ton of great people. All volunteers for Gay For Good.

If you're looking for a non-profit to get involved in or to donate to, please consider Gay For Good. They really do raise awareness for our community in many different ways. We are good.

Nelly Queen | The Life and Times of José Sarria

Last night I attended the opening night of the Long Beach QFilms Festival with my family at the Long Beach Imperial Court. Don't we look wonderful? This family has opened my eyes to the most amazing organizations in and around the Long Beach area.

We are a non-profit for non-profits that help fundraise for a particular cause. I am so grateful to be a member, and even more so to be named as a board member for this wonderful organization.

Last night's movie was about the International Court system called "Nelly Queen | The Life and Times of José Sarria." Let me tell you, ... what a pure joy to watch. The amount of history, and life changing moments José created for the community is pure magic!

If you ever have a chance to come to one of our fundraisers, as you can tell, you will not be disappointed. It's always entertaining.
